Bedoukian describe Valencial as "Aldehydic with peely, orange, waxy notes", their fuller listing adding fatty, waxy citrus peel with hints of cilantro. The Good Scents Company give "citrus metallic mandarin orange waxy aldehydic" at high odour strength, recommend smelling it at one percent or less, and record a blotter life of 72 hours at ten percent in dipropylene glycol. It smells of the zest itself rather than the juice: a slightly metallic mandarin peel that is oily and green-fatty underneath. A trace at the top of a citrus accord makes the fruit read as freshly grated instead of distilled, and it lends a natural, faintly herbal cilantro edge to mandarin, coriander and neroli work. It is powerful and fatty enough to turn heavy and greasy fast if overdosed, so it belongs in the traces.
