Perfumer's Apprentice describe the product itself as a purified styrax specialty blend in IFF's Oliffac series, light in colour, far less viscous than raw styrax and much easier to work with; it carries no single CAS, being a mixture. In a formula it is the smoky-leathery balsam behind chypres, leathers and incense accords, contributing the cinnamic sweetness and phenolic smoke of styrax while pouring and dosing like an ordinary liquid instead of a tar.
