Perfumer's Apprentice carry IFF's description as sweet, smooth, balsam, vanilla: a balsamic-vanillic resinous base with powdery amber undertones, built as a direct working substitute for Siam benzoin resinoid. In a formula it does the resin's job rather than imitating a single molecule, bringing sweetness, warmth and fixation underneath amber, oriental, gourmand and floral accords at 1 to 15% of the concentrate, with a blotter life past 400 hours. It is a compounded base sold as a mixture, so it carries no single CAS.
