What does Fir Balsam Oliffac smell like?
Perfumer's Apprentice, which lists it as Fir Balsam Reconstitution, gives the odour as pine, fruity, moss, smokey and calls it a wonderfully deep and rich synthetic replacement for fir balsam absolute: a dark green-black liquid, used up to a few percent, holding more than forty-eight hours on the blotter. Fraterworks describes an opening rush of fresh pine-needle greenness unfolding into a resinous heart with an unexpected jammy sweetness, raspberry preserves meeting forest sap, anchored by smoky, mossy undertones of the damp forest floor, and rates it moderate in strength and proportional in blends. In a formula it builds authentic coniferous accords, fixes the base, and adds woody-resinous depth to orientals and fougeres.
