What does Schiff canthoxal smell like?
Robertet publishes the olfactive description as "Floral, orange flower, marine" and files it under the Floral family. The Good Scents Company, listing the same substance as anisyl propanal / methyl anthranilate Schiff's base, gives "sweet anise hawthorn green floral cortex mimosa absolute spicy powdery" at medium odour strength and a blotter life of 316-400 hours at full concentration. In a formula it behaves the way the Schiff class does: almost no volatility of its own, so it holds an orange-blossom and mimosa-hawthorn floral in place across the whole drydown while a soft marine-green lift sits over the top and a powdery anisic tail closes it. Use it to slow, round and fix neroli and white-floral accords rather than to brighten them; it is a fixative that happens to smell floral, not a top note.

Every
regulatory join - IFRA, GHS, allergens - is by CAS number, and a material can
supply one through its constituents as well as its own row, so of the
558 materials carrying no CAS number the 257 without a
constituent table are the ones that return "nothing known" rather than
"nothing applies". The blotter hours are sourced rather than measured by us, and the app
labels every one of them an estimate. There is no physical chemistry on a row:
no molecular weight, no vapour pressure, no boiling point.
