What does Ambergris Artessence smell like?
Perfumer's Apprentice files it under animalic and describes the odour as animalic, powerful, iodine and ozonic, supplied as a yellow liquid. The shop is explicit that it contains no animal extract and is not a natural blend: it is a built reconstitution of ambergris rather than a tincture. Bench reports on Basenotes describe it opening dry and woody, almost dusty like old paper, with the animalic sweetness arriving shortly after and holding well. In a formula it is used the way ambergris is used, as a salty mineral undertow beneath woods, amber and musk that stretches the base and lends radiance rather than reading as a note of its own.
