What does Lactoscatone smell like?
Symrise describe a complex animalic note reminiscent of ambergris, civet and musk laid over a rather sweet lactone accord; the datasheet lists it as animalic, white flower, civet, ambergris, and The Good Scents Company reads it at 10% as dry, animal, amber, ambergris, civet, musk. In a formula it does two jobs at once: it imparts the opulence of gardenia and tuberose while carrying the animalic weight underneath, which is why it is a standard component of civet and castoreum reconstitutions. Used at traces up to about 1 percent, and it still measures 52 hours on the blotter from a 10 percent solution.
