The Good Scents Company gives the odour as "sweet musk oily fruity animal floral" at medium strength, with a blotter life of 316 hours at full concentration, and carries the maker's description, "Sweet, soft and tenacious animal-musky". The material is 10-oxahexadecanolide, an oxa-macrolide musk, and it reads as a warm, round, clean-but-animal musk with an oily fruity edge, quite unlike the laundry-clean signature of the nitrile and polycyclic musks. Takasago positions it as a material that gives body and richness to floral, woody and amber accords while contributing a very clean and soft musk note. In practice it is a base-note rounder and fixative: it fills the hollow under a composition and softens rough edges over a very long drydown without ever announcing itself as the musk in the formula.
