What does Koumalactone 10% TEC smell like?
Firmenich's own marketing sheet files it under balsamic and gives the olfactive description as coumarin, lactonic, tonka and phenolic with a very natural tobacco effect; The Good Scents Company adds sweet tonka bean with a tropical coconut lactonic tone. In a formula it replaces or enhances coumarin, and because the sheet calls its strength overpowering it is dosed about ten times below coumarin, which is why the house sells it only as this 10% triethyl citrate solution. It sits as a heart-and-base sweetener that lasts about a week on a smelling strip and is more stable than coumarin in detergent.
