What does 3,6-Nonadienol smell like?
Zeon describes it as diffusive, fresh green and violet-like, and its catalogue expands that to powerful, natural, fresh, green, violet leaf, fruity and vegetable. It is the wet, cut-stem green rather than the sharp leaf-alcohol green: cucumber and melon rind under a violet-leaf top, with a fruity edge that keeps it from reading purely vegetal. In a formula a trace opens the top and pushes air through everything behind it, which is what makes it the standard lift for violet leaf, cucumber, melon and green florals, and what makes overdosing it read as crushed foliage or a fresh-cut vegetable across the whole composition. Note that this is the (3Z,6Z) isomer, a different material from the (2E,6Z) nonadienol usually sold as violet leaf alcohol, and it does not substitute for it one to one.
