如何在网上卖香水?

Make the perfume legal and shippable first, then sell it on one channel you can serve well: your own shop, or a marketplace that accepts cosmetics and flammable goods. Describe it in plain words with claims you can back, price it from the real cost of a bottle plus every fee, and let samples do the persuading. Nothing here promises sales; it is the groundwork that keeps a listing up and a customer coming back.
Where can I sell perfume online, and what do the platforms require?
On your own web shop, on marketplaces that accept cosmetics, and through social channels; whichever you choose, the cosmetics law of the buyer's country applies to the product, and each platform adds rules of its own for cosmetics and for dangerous goods.
Marketplaces can ask for documents before they list or store perfume. Amazon, for example, counts perfumes among dangerous goods, may ask a seller to upload a safety data sheet or an exemption sheet after creating a listing, and has its dangerous goods team decide whether the stock is safe for its fulfilment network. Read the policy pages of any platform before you list, and again when they change.
Two questions asked here have short answers. EU and UK cosmetics law and US federal law set no special licence for selling perfume online, but the product must meet the cosmetics rules where it is sold, and national, state or local rules can add their own (can I sell homemade perfume?). And there is no best app: the right channel accepts cosmetics in your country, lets you ship perfume legally, charges fees your price can carry, and reaches people who already like what you make.
What must be ready before the first listing?
A compliant product, a legal way to ship it, and the documents a platform or a carrier may ask for.
- Compliance for each market you sell into. In the EU and the UK a responsible person, a safety assessment by a qualified safety assessor and a notification; in the US the labelling, records that substantiate safety and a contact for adverse-event reports.
- A finished label (how to label a perfume for sale).
- A safety data sheet for the finished perfume, checked by someone competent in chemical classification.
- A shipping method that accepts perfume. USPS Publication 52 (August 2026) allows it by ground within the US only, at most 16 ounces per package, and not abroad; a courier needs it packed and marked as a limited quantity of a flammable liquid.
- Stock that has finished its rest, chilled and filtered (how long to macerate perfume).
- Photographs of the real bottle and label, and contact details a customer can use.
How do I price a perfume for online sale?
From the cost of one filled bottle plus every cost the online sale adds, platform and payment fees, shipping supplies and the samples you give away, and then the margin: price equals cost divided by one minus the margin you want.
An invented example, to show the arithmetic rather than typical costs: a bottle that costs 8 to make, plus 3 of fees, packaging and samples per order, comes to 11. At a 60 percent margin the price is 11 divided by 0.4, which is 27.50. Priced at 20 from the bottle cost alone, the same sale keeps 9 of 20, a 45 percent margin, and every fee that rises comes out of it. How to price a handmade perfume works out the cost of the bottle.
How do I describe a perfume honestly online: notes, pyramid, longevity?
Name what a buyer will smell, in the order they will smell it, and claim only what you have tested: notes in plain words, a top, heart and base outline, and longevity as what you measured rather than a promise.
- Notes. Words a buyer understands, such as "bitter green citrus" or "dry woods", grouped as top, heart and base (the olfactive pyramid). A material's trade name means nothing to most buyers.
- Longevity and projection. Test on strips and on skin, on more than one person, and give the result as a range with how you measured it (how to test a perfume formula). Your own nose stops noticing a perfume long before other people do.
- Claims. In the EU, no text, name or picture may imply that a cosmetic has characteristics it does not have; in the US, advertising must be truthful and not deceptive, and you need evidence for what you claim. A perfume sold as helping you sleep is a drug to the FDA.
- Reviews. The FTC prohibits fake reviews, and anyone with a material connection to you, such as payment, must disclose it when they recommend you.
PerfuMate's wear model predicts how a formula will unfold from its materials and prints how sure it is, from 40 percent when nothing is measured to 95 percent at most. That is the right spirit for a longevity claim: a model with its error bar, checked against real wearings.
How can I sell perfume faster: samples, discovery sets and repeat buyers?
Let people smell it cheaply. A sample or a discovery set turns a description into an experience at a small cost to both sides, and a buyer who liked one perfume is the easiest second sale.
- Samples and discovery sets. They are perfume too: labelled, made from rested stock and shipped under the same carrier rules. In the EU a pack holding less than 5 ml need not state its nominal content, but the rest of the label still applies.
- Make them early. Sample stock needs the same rest as full bottles, so it is made two to four months before it is sent.
- Look after the people who bought. A note in the parcel, a refill or a second size, and news, sent with their permission, when a new perfume is ready all reach people who already chose you.
- Do not sell below cost to move stock. Work out the margin first; a discount that loses money on every bottle sells faster and earns nothing.
PerfuMate draws each formula's scent profile and drydown, raw material for an honest description, and on a paid plan its sale-ready pack bundles the formula sheet, the safety data sheet draft, bottle labels and the latest batch record. Start a formula, free.
