What does Strawberriff smell like?

IFF's trade name for 2-methyl-2-pentenoic acid, sold as an aroma chemical rather than a base. Perfumer Supply House describes it as sour, acidic, sweaty and fruity with a jammy, ripe strawberry note, and a woody nuance. The acid function is the whole point: it supplies the sour-sweaty overripe edge that ester-only strawberry accords lack, turning a candy strawberry into fruit that has actually sat in the sun. It is used in traces beside the fruity esters and the furanone rather than as the body of the accord. Physical form varies between liquid and solid with the season.
