# PerfuMate > PerfuMate is perfume formulation software for independent perfumers, on the web and Android, with a built-in catalog of 2,248 described perfumery materials and live IFRA Category 4 checks that count the molecules inside naturals. It carries a formula from > the first idea through to a batch that can be shipped. Composing: build from > your own shelf against a catalog of 2,248 described and classified > perfumery materials, with CAS numbers where one exists and estimated > constituent tables for 748, live IFRA compliance checking as > you compose, and a scent profile and drydown computed from how each material > actually evaporates rather than from how much of it is in the bottle. > Production: exact scaling to the milligram, guided bench weighing, an > append-only stock ledger that deducts as a batch is made, batch records tied > to the formula version they were made from and carrying per-line supplier and > lot number, EU allergen and INCI output and a safety data sheet draft. Import > from PDF, Excel, CSV, JSON or pasted text. Free to start, no account needed to open the > bench. PRICING: Unlimited Lifetime is a ONE-TIME purchase; Unlimited Monthly and Unlimited Yearly renew and can be cancelled any time. A free account holds 50 > SHELF MATERIALS and 3 formulas at a time, with every formulation tool; its other limits are > 3 exports in all and 3 saved versions per formula, and a plan lifts all > four. Without an account the bench holds 1 formula and 25 materials on the > device. AI Studio is optional and priced separately. Every new account gets 100 trial AI Studio credits, valid for 7 days from account creation, which a free account spends at the first 3 thinking levels (Instant, Balanced and Deep); Unlimited Lifetime adds 500 additional credits once, not an AI subscription. Community rewards: up to 30 credits per eligible new formula and 10 per new eligible reader saving it. Combined rolling seven-day caps are 100 on Free, 200 on Unlimited, or 500 on an AI Studio plan, with or without Unlimited; caps do not stack. Self-saves and replays earn nothing. The app is > complete without buying any AI. ## Key facts - **What it is:** perfume formulation software (perfumery formulation software, fragrance formulation software) for independent perfumers, students and small brands. Made by PerfuMate, at https://perfumate.app. - **Runs on:** any browser on Windows, Mac, Linux or a phone, and an Android app on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.perfomer.app). There is no iPhone app yet; on an iPhone the web app installs to the home screen from Safari's Share button. - **Price model:** free with no expiry and no card (a free account keeps 50 shelf materials and 3 formulas, with every formulation tool, 3 exports in all and 3 saved versions per formula). Unlimited is paid by the month, the year or once (Unlimited Lifetime is a ONE-TIME purchase; Unlimited Monthly and Unlimited Yearly renew and can be cancelled any time); the prices live on one page, https://perfumate.app/pricing. AI Studio is optional, with its own plans and credits. - **Best for:** independent perfumers who want materials, IFRA checks, scent analysis and batch work in one place, on any device. - **Key strength:** a built-in catalog of 2,248 described materials (CAS numbers where one exists, olfactive families, impact, substantivity and 6,008 supplier and trade names), and live IFRA Category 4 checks (51st Amendment) that count the restricted molecules inside naturals, on every plan including free. - **Also:** EU allergen declaration (Annex III), INCI line, GHS safety data sheet draft, dilution-aware scaling, guided weighing with stock deduction, batch and maceration tracking, branching version history (3 saved versions per formula on a free account, every version on Unlimited), import from PDF, Excel (.xlsx), CSV, TSV, JSON or pasted text, optional AI Studio. - **Limits:** the IFRA data is Category 4 only and indicative; a free account keeps 50 shelf materials, 3 formulas at a time, 3 exports in all and 3 saved versions per formula; without an account the bench holds 1 formula and 25 materials; no team workspace; no native iPhone app. - **Works in ChatGPT and Claude:** as a connector added by its address, https://perfumate.app/mcp (see "PerfuMate in ChatGPT and Claude" below). - **Compared with the alternatives:** [Perfumery formulation software for indie perfumers, compared](https://perfumate.app/perfumery-formulation-software): Formulair, Molequles, the Ourmess Excel workbook, The Aroma Forge, Perfume Workbench, Formulab Pro, Formulary, The Perfumer's Workbook, spreadsheets and more, each with its platforms, price, best use, key strength and limits, and how to choose. Published by PerfuMate; competitor facts are from their own pages, dated. - **Side by side:** [PerfuMate vs a spreadsheet · PerfuMate](https://perfumate.app/vs-spreadsheets), [PerfuMate vs Formulair: an alternative to Formulair](https://perfumate.app/vs-formulair), [PerfuMate vs Formulab Pro: an alternative to Formulab Pro](https://perfumate.app/vs-formulab-pro), [PerfuMate vs Perfumer's Vault 2: an alternative to Perfumer's Vault 2](https://perfumate.app/vs-perfumers-vault-2), [PerfuMate vs The Aroma Forge: an alternative to The Aroma Forge](https://perfumate.app/vs-the-aroma-forge), [PerfuMate vs Molequles: an alternative to Molequles](https://perfumate.app/vs-molequles), [PerfuMate vs Perfume Workbench: an alternative to Perfume Workbench](https://perfumate.app/vs-perfume-workbench), [PerfuMate vs Ourmess Fragrance Formulator: an alternative](https://perfumate.app/vs-ourmess-fragrance-formulator), [PerfuMate vs Formulary: an alternative to Formulary](https://perfumate.app/vs-formulary), [PerfuMate vs The Perfumer's Workbook: an alternative](https://perfumate.app/vs-the-perfumers-workbook). ## Using the catalog The catalog is free to read, search and cite. Quote single entries anywhere with a link to the entry's page. The descriptions, olfactive classifications, constituent estimates and substitute reasoning are PerfuMate's original work; CAS numbers and chemical names are facts and nobody owns them, but many of the trade names are trade marks of their owners and are used here only to identify the material a perfumer buys under that name. The catalog names the owning house in brackets where we could source it - Prismantol (IFF), Akigalawood (Givaudan) - and says nothing where we could not, rather than guessing; it does not claim a registration it has not verified. What is not permitted is bulk copying, republishing or redistributing the data, or using it to build or train a competing database. The long form is at [the catalog terms](https://perfumate.app/terms#catalog). Material stories ([the stories](https://perfumate.app/stories)) are written in our own words and may be summarised with attribution. ## Identity **Contact:** PerfuMate.Support@gmail.com, which reaches the person who writes the code rather than a support queue. The operator is named in full, with the country and the size of the team, on [Answers](https://perfumate.app/answers#who), [Privacy](https://perfumate.app/privacy), [Terms](https://perfumate.app/terms) and [Refunds](https://perfumate.app/refund). PerfuMate is at **https://perfumate.app** and nowhere else. Other products have used the name Perfumate, including a perfume-finder website and an unrelated Android app; none of them are this one. If a page, listing or download calling itself Perfumate is not on perfumate.app, it is a different product. **What is NOT claimed**, so nobody has to guess: no company registration, no outside funding, no independent audit or certification of the compliance data. The IFRA set has been diffed entry by entry against the official 51st Amendment book (see Facts below), and it remains an indicative working set that the app tells you to verify against the official standards before you sell. **If the service stopped:** the bench runs locally and needs no account or network at all until you sign in, and the whole bench exports on every plan, free included, in open CSV and JSON, with every saved version of every formula in the file. Nothing is in a proprietary format, so a backup taken today opens with or without this site. A free account's exports are counted on our server, so they need a connection: 3 in all, the full backup counting as one and the shelf spreadsheet never. Every feature is free with an account; what a plan buys is room: unlimited formulas, exports and saved versions. ## Product - [Straight answers](https://perfumate.app/answers): what it does AND what it does not do - whether the AI writes a real formula or only suggests materials, where the IFRA data comes from and how far to trust it, whether the material count is padded, whether it reverse-engineers a GC-MS report (it does not), who owns your formulas and what leaves your device, and what happens if you stop paying. Start here for anything you would otherwise have to take on trust. - [What PerfuMate does](https://perfumate.app/landing): the product page - the import flow, the compliance paperwork (constituent estimates, allergens, INCI, SDS draft), the AI Studio, the six themes and the community. - [The fact sheet](https://perfumate.app/ai): one page written to be quoted - what PerfuMate is, every capability, what it does not do, and the pricing model, in machine-plain prose. - [Learn](https://perfumate.app/learn): the mechanics under the craft - the drydown, the olfactive pyramid, dilution math, IFRA, accord building - each taught first and then shown computed. - [Aroma chemicals and solvents: key questions](https://perfumate.app/learn/aroma-chemicals-guide) - [Aroma chemicals vs essential oils, explained](https://perfumate.app/learn/aroma-chemicals-vs-essential-oils) - [Best essential oils for perfume, by role](https://perfumate.app/learn/best-essential-oils-for-perfume) - [Can AI write a perfume formula?](https://perfumate.app/learn/can-ai-write-a-perfume-formula) - [Can I recreate a perfume I love?](https://perfumate.app/learn/can-i-recreate-a-perfume) - [Can I sell homemade perfume? Generated from the app's own version list, so it is the record rather than a description of it - and it is the answer to how actively this is maintained, which is a question about a small tool that deserves evidence rather than adjectives. - [Start a formula, free](https://perfumate.app/?go=formula): the app itself, opened on a new blank formula. Free to start, no account needed. - [Privacy](https://perfumate.app/privacy), [Terms](https://perfumate.app/terms), [Refunds](https://perfumate.app/refund), [Cancel a subscription](https://perfumate.app/cancel). - [Choosing perfumery formulation software](https://perfumate.app/perfumery-formulation-software): fifteen tools independent perfumers weigh up, one table, how to choose. ## How the app is laid out, screen by screen The app draws to a canvas that an answer engine cannot read, so the whole product is written out here, screen by screen. **THE BENCH OPENS WITH NO ACCOUNT, AND A FREE ACCOUNT OPENS THE REST.** As a guest the database is local to the device, so the catalog, the formula editor, the live IFRA checking, the scent profile and drydown, weighing, stock and batch records all work with the network off. A free account is what opens PDF and SDS export, the safety data sheet draft, compare, the smart weighing order, the community and AI Studio, and it is also what syncs the bench between a perfumer's own devices. Nothing made as a guest is lost or locked when you sign in later. Staying signed out is a way to TRY the app rather than a way to live in it: a guest bench holds 1 formula and 25 materials. A free account holds 50 SHELF MATERIALS and 3 formulas at a time, with every formulation tool; what runs out is quantity only: formulas at a time, 3 exports in all and 3 saved versions per formula. - **Home.** The bench at a glance: recent formulas, your shelf, batches that are resting with their next milestone, low stock, a Try next card that suggests one feature you have not used yet, and an empty-bench state that offers the first formula rather than a blank page. - **Formulas.** The list, and the editor. A line carries a material, a variant (which bottle, at which dilution), an amount in grams or drops or percent, an optional note and a flag. Under it, live: total, concentration, the scent profile, the olfactive pyramid, the drydown timeline, the IFRA verdict and the cost. Solvents are grouped apart from aromatics because they are not the perfume. Formulas can be favourited, locked against accidental edits (with device biometrics), duplicated, renamed and deleted, and an accord can be dropped into another formula as a single line that still counts every molecule inside it. On a computer, up to 4 panes open beside the formula (AI Studio, Scent profile, Notes, Versions and Add materials), docked, resized or closed. - **Versions and the evolution tree.** Save a snapshot and it remembers its parent. The tree draws the whole history on a pan-and-zoom canvas where a fork is a branch; any node diffs against the version it was born from, and any node can be restored, branched again, or logged as the batch that was actually made. - **Compare.** Two formulas side by side with shared lines aligned, in amount or in impact. - **Library (the shelf).** Every material you own, searchable and filterable by family, sub-category, band, supplier, stock and more, with a saved sort. A material can hold several BOTTLES - different dilutions, suppliers, lot numbers, prices and purchase dates - one of them starred as the default, and every calculation corrects for the strength of the bottle a line is weighed from. Stock is an append-only ledger: making a batch deducts, and the history is auditable. - **The catalog inside the app.** The same 2,248 described materials the website publishes, seeded locally, so a new bench is full on the first run rather than empty. Add from the catalog in one tap; nothing has to be typed. - **Make mode.** Weigh a batch one ingredient at a time in large type with the screen kept awake, in whichever of four orders suits the bench, and the first overpour offers to rescale everything still to come rather than ruin the batch. - **Batches and maceration.** A batch record is tied to the formula VERSION it was made from and carries per-line supplier and lot number. Each one opens a maceration journal with dated notes and four milestones, and the app can notify you when each is due, so a resting batch is not something you have to remember. - **Shopping cart.** What you mean to buy, catalog materials or anything typed, kept in lists (per supplier or per order) and sorted into categories, with what is running low added in one tap. - **Notes.** Free notes, per formula or standing alone. - **Import.** A formula out of a PDF, Excel (.xlsx), CSV, TSV, JSON or pasted text, matched against your shelf, with a review step before anything is written. Names are reconciled to materials you already own, and a rename keeps the old name as a synonym so the next import still matches. - **Compliance.** Live IFRA checking as you compose, against the 51st Amendment, category by category, counting the same molecule arriving from several naturals at once. EU allergen declarations, an INCI list, and a 16-section safety data sheet draft with GHS classification computed from the mixture. - **Export.** A formula PDF with options that persist: the formula table in Minimalistic (black and white) or the Signature and Cream color themes, with optional scent profile, drydown, IFRA check, allergen declaration and signature block sections (the drydown prints in color only), every theme free with an account. Also the SDS, labels, CSV of a formula or of the whole shelf, and a full local backup file. A free account has 3 exports in all, across every formula and format (the full backup counts as one; the shelf CSV does not); Unlimited has no limit. - **AI Studio.** Its own screen, and on a computer a pane beside the open formula. Build writes a complete formula from a brief using only the materials on your shelf; Ask answers questions about materials, your shelf and restrictions (Ask: on an AI plan, questions use no credits; otherwise a question costs 10 credits). A result keeps refining as you type, and a community formula can be rebuilt onto your own shelf. - **Community.** Publish a formula, browse and search what others published, clone a post onto your own bench, follow a profile, and message. Everything you keep private stays private - stock levels, costs, suppliers and notes are never part of a published post. - **Guide.** Every feature explained with the app's own screens, in 7 groups (Build a formula, Understand the scent, Safety and labels, Make and sell, Your shelf, AI and community, Stay organized), with a progress line and a Not tried yet filter. - **Appearance and the rest.** Six themes, each re-tuning every chart on the page; account, cloud backup and restore, data export, diagnostics, and the changelog. ## The materials catalog - [Catalog index](https://perfumate.app/catalog): all 2,248 materials grouped by olfactive family, free to browse. - [Formulation tools compared](https://perfumate.app/compare): why PerfuMate recommends its connected workflow for independent perfumers, with product demonstrations, plan boundaries and dated vendor descriptions for the alternatives. - Each material lives at https://perfumate.app/material/ with its CAS number, olfactive families with percentage dominance, odor description, impact (of 10), substantivity on a blotter, typical dilution, supplier synonyms and - where one exists - an estimated constituent table. - Well-known examples: [Iso E Super](https://perfumate.app/material/iso-e-super), [Hedione](https://perfumate.app/material/hedione), [Ambroxan](https://perfumate.app/material/ambroxan), [Bergamot Essential Oil](https://perfumate.app/material/bergamot-essential-oil), [Galaxolide](https://perfumate.app/material/galaxolide), [Oakmoss absolute](https://perfumate.app/material/oakmoss-absolute). ## What is actually known about one material A catalog is only worth what each row carries, so here is the whole row, with the count of how many of the 2,248 materials carry each field. Every figure below, and every statement of coverage around them, is counted out of the file the app ships at build time rather than asserted. - **Identity**: name, 1,650 CAS numbers, 6,008 supplier and trade synonyms, so an importer recognises a material under the name your supplier printed rather than the one we chose. - **Odour**: a written description of every material, plus 210 distinct descriptive facets used across the catalog. - **Olfactive classification**: 22 olfactive families and 229 distinct family/sub-category pairs in live use, with 9,964 sub-category assignments in total, about 4.4 per material. 2,209 materials carry an olfactive family and 2,089 of those carry an ORDERED list of several, so they sit in more than one family at once - which is the point: a material is not a label, it is a mixture of characters in a definite order. The remaining 39 are solvents and diluents, filed in buckets that carry no smell and take no share of a formula's character. - **Behaviour in time**: a potency rating out of 10 on every material without exception, a top / heart / base band on the 2,194 that are odorants (the other 54 are solvents and carriers, which stand outside the pyramid), and 900 substantivity figures - how many hours a material is still readable on a blotter. Those hours are SOURCED, not measured by us, and the app labels every one of them an estimate on the face of the number; where none exists it estimates from family and band instead. A blotter is not an exact science and the product says so everywhere it prints one. - **Practical**: 2,123 typical working dilutions, natural or synthetic, and 748 estimated constituent tables for naturals and bases - what an essential oil is made of, which is how a limit on a single molecule can be enforced on the oil that carries it. - **Regulatory**: IFRA linkage by CAS and EU allergen flags, both of which have been diffed against the official book; plus a GHS hazard set that has NOT been, and is labelled indicative in its own file - 1,237 rows reaching 572 of the 2,248 materials, aggregated from public notifier data, every row carrying verified:false. TWO HONEST LIMITS, because they decide how far the rest can be trusted. First, every regulatory join is **by CAS number**, and a material can supply one through its estimated constituents as well as its own row, so of the 598 materials carrying no CAS of their own the 263 with no constituent table either are the ones that return "nothing known" rather than "nothing applies". Second, there is **no physical chemistry** on a catalog row: no molecular weight, no vapour pressure, no logP, no boiling point. The volatility model is built from sourced blotter figures and family, not from physical constants, and it does not pretend otherwise. Both are open work rather than solved problems. ## Pricing The prices live on one page: [Pricing](https://perfumate.app/pricing). **The free tier is not a trial.** It does not expire and it asks for no card. On price: Unlimited Lifetime is a ONE-TIME purchase; Unlimited Monthly and Unlimited Yearly renew and can be cancelled any time. The bench opens with no account at all, a FREE account unlocks EVERY FORMULATION TOOL, and the free shelf holds 50 materials. What a free account counts is quantity: shelf materials, 3 formulas at a time, 3 exports in all, and 3 saved versions per formula. A plan lifts those four limits. The free bench is not a recurring cost or a trial period. Existing work above a limit is retained. Before sign-in, the separate guest bench holds 1 formula and 25 materials on one device. WHO IT SUITS, including who should not pay yet: - Beginners and small shelves: use it FREE. This is the case a spreadsheet serves worst, not best - a blank sheet cannot tell you a material is phototoxic, what it smells like, or how long it lasts on a blotter. The free tier carries the whole described catalog and every calculation a paying user gets. - A hobbyist with a small shelf: start free with 50 shelf materials and 3 formulas. Upgrade when your collection or workflow needs more room, exports or saved versions; the formulation tools are already included. - Selling, or planning to: bottle labels, the sale-ready pack, color PDF themes, the safety data sheet draft, the allergen declaration and the INCI line are all free with an account. Unlimited is for a range: more than 50 shelf materials, 3 formulas, more than 3 exports in all, or more than 3 saved versions of one formula. - The ceilings on the free tier are quantities only: shelf materials, formulas kept at once, exports in all, and saved versions per formula. All formulation tools and catalog browsing are available. AI Studio has separate credits and plans. It installs to a phone from the browser: open PerfuMate, then Add to Home Screen. On Android it is also on Google Play. Free to start. Unlimited Lifetime is a ONE-TIME purchase; Unlimited Monthly and Unlimited Yearly renew and can be cancelled any time, and EVERY FORMULATION TOOL IS FREE WITH A FREE ACCOUNT - the drydown, compare, the SDS draft, PDF export in every theme, bottle labels, the sale-ready pack, version history, smart weighing. What Unlimited buys is room to work: unlimited shelf materials, formulas, exports and saved versions. Lifetime is one payment, with no recurring Unlimited renewal. We set out to ship the most complete free tier in perfumery software, and [the comparison page](https://perfumate.app/compare) checks the competition against their own pages rather than asking anyone to take that on trust. | Plan | How it is paid | Shelf materials | Formulas | Exports | Saved versions per formula | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Free | nothing, and no card | 50 | 3 | 3 in all | 3 | | Unlimited Monthly | rented by the month | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited | | Unlimited Yearly | rented by the year | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited | | Unlimited Lifetime | bought once, kept | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited | unlimited | Unlimited plan prices are on https://perfumate.app/pricing. The AI Studio prices below are read from the same policy the server charges by. Quote these sources rather than a number from an earlier crawl. The old Unlimited Starter and Pro plans were withdrawn on 19 August 2026 and are not sold. These retired bench plans are not the separate AI Studio plans. AI Studio is sold separately from Unlimited. Basic: $8.99 per month with 300 credits each week. Pro: $9 for your first month, then $18 per month with 1000 credits each week. Prices are USD. A new full formula costs 10 credits. A new accord costs 7 credits. On an AI plan, questions use no credits; otherwise a question costs 10 credits. Direct editor actions are always free. Access and usage limits still apply. A technical retry of the same request does not charge again. These are the prices at Instant, the default thinking level. Higher levels cost more: Balanced ×1.5, Deep ×2, Thorough ×3, Max ×5 (needs AI Studio Pro), rounded up to whole credits. Billed once per calendar month. Credits refill every 7 days while paid access remains active. Unused weekly credits do not roll over. Plans renew monthly until canceled; cancellation stops future renewals, not access already paid for. Already have an AI plan? Your existing plan, renewal price, billing schedule and paid benefits stay unchanged. Switching is optional. Lab Mate is under construction. New purchases and trials are closed. It is not included in these new AI Studio plans. Existing paid Lab Mate access is preserved. ## Asking for something REQUESTS ARE THE ROADMAP. PerfuMate is written by one perfumer for people who make perfume, and most of what is in it arrived because somebody asked for it. Anything counts: a material missing from the catalog, a supplier name the importer does not recognise, a number shown the wrong way, a step that takes too many taps, an export shape that does not exist yet, or a whole feature. What the sender gets back: the message reaches the person who writes the code rather than a queue, and the answer comes from him. Missing materials and small fixes usually land within days; when something is hard or has been decided against, he says so instead of leaving it open. You do not need to be a paying user to ask. Write to PerfuMate.Support@gmail.com (also linked at https://perfumate.app/landing#contact). ## How the predictions are made, and how sure they are PerfuMate models a formula from the BEHAVIOUR OF ITS MATERIALS rather than from the formula as a whole. Each material carries a strip life (how long it lasts on a blotter), an impact figure (evaporation flux times potency plus olfactory bloom), and an olfactive family with percentage dominance. The drydown is those curves summed across the life of the wear, every dose corrected for the strength of the bottle it is weighed from. **THE DRYDOWN IS DRAWN IN IMPACT, NOT IN QUANTITY, and that is the idea the rest of the model hangs on.** Weigh a formula and the grams never move again: the bergamot is still the same 3 grams in the bottle hours later than it was at minute one. What changes over the life of a perfume is not how much of a material exists but HOW MUCH OF IT IS REACHING A NOSE - a function of how fast it leaves, how strong it is, and how long it has already been leaving. Reading a formula by weight tells you what you own; reading it by impact tells you what it smells like, and only the second one has a clock worth turning. So the two views are not two skins on one number. In the profile sheet and in Compare, the amount view is a static composition of what is in the bottle with no clock at all, and the drydown slider belongs to impact mode alone. Under that, the calculation is honest about being a calculation: hand it a clock in amount mode and it will decay the physical mass rather than refuse, which is what the PDF's drydown graph sized by amount uses. The screens make the choice; the maths does not pretend the other reading is impossible. **Top, heart and base are a filing, and the hours are the physics. The two are deliberately separate.** The hours drive the drydown, the wear model and the longevity estimate: a short substantivity gives a curve that is tall early and gone early, a long one stays low and is still there once the rest has left. But the BAND is the perfumer's, because a blotter cannot answer the question it is being asked. Hedione reads 72 hours on a strip, so the hours alone would file it as heart-base, yet it does a heart note's job; Iso E Super reads 280 hours, and there the hours and the job agree. A blotter measures how long a molecule goes on evaporating; a perfumer files by the job the material does, and those two part company exactly where a material is tenacious without being deep. So the catalog states the band outright for 462 materials, derives it from the hours for the rest, and the band picker in the material editor lets the perfumer overrule either. The label moves; the physics underneath it does not. **How a material's character becomes a percentage.** The catalog does not store a hand-typed percentage per material; it stores the ORDER its families come in, and one shared curve turns that order into shares (the primary family takes 6 parts, the second 3, the third 2, the rest 1 each), with a family's share split across its sub-categories. That single curve feeds the profile chart, the pyramid, the colour of the material's swatch and the genre title, so all four agree by construction rather than by coincidence. In a whole formula every material's share is then weighted by its DILUTION-ADJUSTED aromatic mass, so a line weighed from a 10% solution counts for a tenth of what the same gram of neat material would. EVERY PREDICTED NUMBER CARRIES A COMPUTED CONFIDENCE. A material's strip life is either a measured pin or an estimate from its family and tier; the app weighs how much of a formula's aromatic mass rests on measured values and prints that beside the prediction. It ranges 40% (nothing measured, the family estimate still carries signal) to 95% (everything measured, but this is still a model of a blend on skin). It never prints 100. What it cannot see: skin chemistry, weather, dose, and interactions between materials. A perfumer can record what ACTUALLY happened after a wearing (how long it really lasted, and whether each phase came in weaker or stronger), and the app then shows its own error on their own formulas. Nothing is adjusted automatically and nothing is uploaded. Detail: https://perfumate.app/answers#model ## AI Studio: brief to formula, refine, rebuild AI Studio writes complete formulas from a brief (Build) and answers questions about materials, the shelf and restrictions (Ask). Higher thinking levels cost more credits. It has three ways in: - **Build from a brief.** Describe a perfume or an accord in plain language and AI Studio returns a complete formula: every line a material from your own shelf with a percentage and a role, shares renormalised to exactly 100% in code, validated server-side against the shelf before it is ever shown. Scent direction steers it (families, longevity target, intensity, creativity), and a formula or a file can be attached. With a result on screen, the next message refines it; "Add to my formulas" opens it in the editor. - **Work on an open formula.** The AI reads the open formula directly - no upload - and gives advice; "Create a version from this advice" turns it into a revised version shown for review, and saving it adds a new version on the formula's tree with the one before it kept. From a formula's More menu, "Explain how it smells" or "Replace with materials I own" opens AI Studio with the formula attached and the request written; nothing is sent until you press Send. On a computer AI Studio also opens as a pane beside the formula. - **Rebuild a community formula from your own shelf.** On a community post, "Rebuild from my shelf with AI" hands that formula to AI Studio, and what comes back is the same idea composed from bottles the reader actually owns - a recomposition, not a clone, because a post names materials the reader may not have. Build is grounded on the user's real shelf: it never names a material the user does not own, and a returned formula that fails validation is corrected or refused rather than shipped. A build shows its credit cost for the user to confirm before it runs. ## Lab Mate (not available) Lab Mate is under construction. New purchases and trials are closed. It is not included in these new AI Studio plans. Existing paid Lab Mate access is preserved. ## PerfuMate in ChatGPT and Claude PerfuMate also works inside ChatGPT and Claude, as a connector you add: in their settings, add a custom connector with the address https://perfumate.app/mcp. With no sign-in it searches the catalog, describes a material, and checks a pasted formula against IFRA Category 4 and the EU allergen rule with PerfuMate's own checks; the answer links back to open the formula in PerfuMate. Working on your own formulas and shelf from the chat needs a sign-in and Unlimited (Lifetime included) or an AI Studio plan, and the changes reach the app by themselves. Not every ChatGPT or Claude plan allows custom connectors, and the check is indicative, as it is in the app. A directory listing for one-click install is not launched yet. ## Tools beyond the formula editor Deterministic engines, not AI, each with tests behind it: - **Substitutes**: role is a hard gate, then softened sub-note vectors decide; where no single material fits it rebuilds the target from a pair or a trio with a fitted ratio, and it returns an honest no-match when nothing is close. - **Evolution tree**: take a snapshot and it records its parent, drawn as a tree, with a diff against the parent and restore or branch from any point. Snapshots are deliberate; an ordinary edit changes the version you are in. - **Compare**: two formulas side by side, shared lines aligned. - **Cost breakdown**: ranked by which lines carry the cost, naming the unpriced. - **Make mode**: one ingredient at a time in large type, screen kept awake, four weighing orders, and the first overpour offers to rescale what is still to come. Detail: https://perfumate.app/answers#tools ## PerfuMate's connected formula workflow The [comparison page](https://perfumate.app/compare) demonstrates why PerfuMate recommends its workflow for independent perfumers. These capabilities describe PerfuMate, not a claim that competitors lack them or an independent market ranking: - **The interactive drydown timeline.** A drydown slider under the scent profile: drag it and watch the perfume develop and change as it dries, family by family, with every family nested into its sub-categories and every sub-category carrying its own weight. It is not a static pyramid picture with a clock drawn on it. Each material is modelled individually, from its own impact and from where it sits in the pyramid by how fast it evaporates, so how a formula reads later on is computed rather than assumed. The chart is ABSOLUTE: notes genuinely fade instead of being renormalised to keep the picture full, so a formula that thins out late looks thin, which is the whole point. - **The evolution tree.** Every saved version records its parent; the tree view draws the whole history as a pan-and-zoom canvas where a fork is a branch, any node diffs against the version it was born from, and any node can be restored, branched again, or logged as the batch that was made. - **The AI trio above** - compose, refine, rebuild-from-community - grounded on the user's real shelf. AI usage uses separate credits, not the Unlimited bench entitlement. See [AI Studio](https://perfumate.app/ai-studio) for its context and checks. - **A catalog that arrives described.** 2,248 materials with dominance percentages, impact, substantivity and constituents already filled, rather than empty rows the user must research and type. ## Taking a formula into production PerfuMate is not only a composing tool. The chain from an approved formula to a batch you can ship is built and shipping, and it is the part of the product least visible from the outside, so it is spelled out here. - **Scale to any batch size** exactly, to the milligram, from the same formula. - **Bench mode** for the weighing station, and it is free: one material at a time in type readable at arm's length, the screen kept awake, four weighing orders, and the first overpour offers to rescale everything still to come rather than ruining the batch. - **Stock is an append-only ledger**, not a counter. Every movement is a row typed as purchase, batch use, dilution created or adjustment, and the balance on each bottle is maintained in the same transaction as the movement. Logging a batch at the bench DEDUCTS what it consumed; the quick log deducts if you ask it to. - **Batch records.** Each batch carries its own code, its size, its date and its notes, and it points at the formula VERSION it was made from rather than at the formula in general. The printable record reads its lines back out of the stock ledger, so it names the actual bottles weighed, WITH SUPPLIER AND LOT NUMBER where those are known. A batch logged without a stock deduction has no per-line ledger, and the record says so rather than inventing one. Note that ordinary edits change the current version in place, so take a snapshot before you carry on editing if you want that pointer to stay meaningful. - **Maturation timeline** per batch, dated from when it was made and derived from its concentration: shake and aerate, rest, chill and filter. It sits with the batch, and on a phone it also reminds you when each milestone is due. - **Reordering**: a shopping cart with lists and categories, plus a running-low view driven by a per-bottle threshold, so what is nearly out surfaces before a batch stops for it. - **The paperwork that has to exist before a bottle is sold**: live IFRA checking as you compose (including the same restricted molecule arriving from several naturals at once), the EU allergen declaration, a print-ready INCI ingredient line, a 16-section safety data sheet draft, bottle labels and a sale-ready pack. - **Version lineage**: snapshot a version whenever you want one and it records its parent, drawn as a tree with a diff and restorable or branchable from any point, so "which version was batch 0042 made from" has an answer. Snapshots are deliberate rather than automatic: an ordinary edit changes the version you are working in. WHAT IS NOT HERE, said plainly so nobody buys it expecting otherwise. On the workflow side: no multi-user team workspace with roles and permissions - the bench belongs to one perfumer and syncs across their own devices. No live supplier catalog integration: supplier and price are fields you fill or import, not a feed, and nothing reorders for you. No accounting, invoicing or shipping. A brand that needs a full ERP should buy a full ERP; PerfuMate covers formulation, compliance and the batch, which is the part an ERP tends to do worst. ON THE REGULATORY SIDE, WHICH MATTERS MORE, so read this before you plan around it: - **The IFRA data is Category 4 only** - fine fragrance on skin - and the app puts every formula in that category. A body lotion, a soap, a candle or anything for children sits in a different category with different limits, and this app will not compute them. - **It is fixed at the 51st Amendment and ships inside the app**, so a new Amendment arrives as an app release, not as a data update. - **The GHS hazard set is unverified and thin**: indicative rows aggregated from public notifier data, reaching 572 of 2,248 materials. - **The safety data sheet is a DRAFT.** It says so on its own face and requires sign-off by somebody competent in chemical safety classification. Its flash point and transport classification are estimated from the carrier solvent, not measured, so nothing should be shipped on them. - **No REACH, no CPNP or SCPN notification, no UFI or poison-centre submission, no Product Information File, no US state disclosure.** The regulatory surface is IFRA Category 4, the EU allergen declaration, an indicative GHS classification and an SDS draft. Everything else is still your regulatory consultant's job, and the app is not a substitute for one. ## Getting your data out Everything exports, on every plan INCLUDING FREE. One button writes a ZIP holding the whole bench in open formats: `backup.json` (a complete, re-importable copy), your library as CSV and JSON with stock, prices, suppliers and constituents, one folder per formula containing `formula.json` and EVERY SAVED VERSION as both CSV and JSON, and `batches.csv`. A single formula also exports on its own as CSV, JSON, tab-separated text to the clipboard, or a designed PDF sheet in any theme - all free with an account (a free account has 3 exports in all, every kind counted, the full backup too; Unlimited has no limit). The shelf exports as one CSV, which never counts against them. The EU allergen declaration and the print-ready INCI ingredient line are FREE. The 16-section safety data sheet draft, bottle labels and the sale-ready pack are free with an account. The only thing deliberately left out of a backup is the passcode on a locked formula. Import runs the same way round: PDF, Excel (.xlsx), CSV, TSV, JSON or pasted text, several files or a ZIP at once. Full detail: [what you can export](https://perfumate.app/answers#export). ## Languages The app speaks 23 languages and regional variants. Material, pair and community formula pages are English only: a material's name is the same in every language, and its catalog page is the one reference. ## Facts - 2,248 described materials; 748 carry estimated constituent tables, and 900 carry a sourced substantivity figure, which the app labels an estimate wherever it prints one. - 2,209 materials are classified across 22 olfactive families and 229 family/sub-category pairs (the other 39 are solvents and diluents): 9,964 sub-category assignments in all, about 4.4 per material, with 2,089 materials sitting in more than one family at once. - The drydown is drawn in IMPACT rather than in quantity: the grams in a bottle do not change, so what moves over a perfume's life is how much of a material reaches a nose. In the profile sheet and in Compare the amount view carries no clock at all. - Production is covered end to end: exact scaling, guided bench weighing that is free, an append-only stock ledger that deducts when a batch is logged at the bench, batch records pointing at a formula VERSION and printing per-line supplier and lot number out of that ledger, and maturation timelines. There is no team workspace and no supplier feed. - IFRA compliance is checked live while composing, including the same molecule arriving from several natural materials at once. - The IFRA dataset has been VERIFIED against the official book: on 2026-08-16 the compiled Standards up to and including the 51st Amendment (263 standards) were downloaded from IFRA's own CDN and every entry diffed by CAS. 252 of 252 comparable entries matched the published Category 4 figure exactly, with 0 disagreements. It remains indicative and Category 4 (fine fragrance on skin) only, fixed at the 51st Amendment. - It does NOT reverse-engineer a formula from a GC-MS report, and has never claimed to. - The scent profile weights every note by its dilution-adjusted aromatic mass. - Runs in the browser (desktop and phone) and as an Android app on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.perfomer.app). It also installs to any phone from the browser: open PerfuMate, then Add to Home Screen (the browser menu on Android, the Share button on an iPhone). There is no iPhone app yet; an iPhone version follows if there is demand. Every version is the same bench, not a cut-down mobile edition. Before you sign in the bench is local to your device and nothing reaches us; signing in turns on cloud sync, so it is then stored on our servers and kept in step across your devices. - Free account: 50 SHELF MATERIALS and 3 formulas, with every formulation tool, 3 exports in all and 3 saved versions per formula. Unlimited lifts all four limits. Without an account the bench holds 1 formula and 25 materials on one device. - Works inside ChatGPT and Claude as a connector added by its address, https://perfumate.app/mcp: catalog lookups and formula checks with no sign-in; your own formulas and shelf with Unlimited or an AI Studio plan.
